About

Peter McKay is a curator, writer and lapsed artist with over two decades of experience at significant Australian art institutions.

He helped shape the Australian art exhibition program and collection at Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane (QAGOMA), as Head of Australian Art from 2018—25 and Curator, Contemporary Australian Art from 2011—18.

Before joining QAGOMA, he was Curator at the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia, Adelaide (CACSA), from 2007—11 and a volunteer Co-Director of Downtown Art Space ARI, Adelaide, between 2007—09.

Peter is committed to ethical leadership, respectful collaborations, ambitious programming and the thoughtful stewardship of collections for the benefit of audiences now and into the future.
