The New New was conceived to strengthen awareness and appreciation of South Australian contemporary visual art among local and national audiences. Presented in a large, biennale-style, multi-venue format, it brought together 44 artists across galleries, public spaces and sites throughout Adelaide.

Vocal Thoughts brought together works that gave form to anxieties, difficult feelings and exchanges often left unspoken or approached with a closed mind. Across video, animation, performance and drawing, the exhibition considered individual and collective disquiet as both subject and raw material, tracing how inner lives are shaped by therapeutic, technological, political and economic systems.

Moving between self-help, psychology, online identity, mental illness and collective complaint, this exhibition asked how private thought might become public speech—and how vulnerability, humour and shared expression might tip the balance against isolation.
